African American Heritage Festival
February 22 – 24
Join the Charlotte Museum of History for the annual African American Heritage Festival. The festival begins with a documentary film screening on Thursday, a cultural presentation from Charlotte Caribbean Carnival on Friday, and free admission to the museum and the celebration of Siloam School to the museum’s campus with performances, guest speakers, panels, and community-focused events on Saturday. Big Read Kickoff Celebration at Harvey B. Gantt Center

The Gantt’s official start of the Big Read – a five-month initiative designed to inform, engage, and promote literacy with a series of free programming; this event features a festive dance performance by KanKouran West African Dance Company, a mayoral proclamation declaring February 23 as Charlotte’s Big Read Day, a poetry performance, and much more.
