HopeWay Opens New Eating Disorder Programs and Teen Mental Health Program in Charlotte

Guest Article contributed by HopeWay

Today’s teenagers are facing an overwhelming array of mental health challenges. More than 2.5 million youth in the U.S. grapple with severe major depression, with over 60 percent not receiving the necessary treatment. Eating disorders among teens and young adults have surged since the onset of the pandemic, with increased symptom severity.

In light of these growing concerns, local nonprofit organization HopeWay has launched two new treatment options: Teen Mental Health and Teen & Young Adult Eating Disorder Programs. These programs are now open and accepting admissions at a new location in east Charlotte.

Why it Matters

Since opening their adult mental health programs in 2016, HopeWay has served thousands of clients from across the nation. HopeWay’s newly opened programs are located within the Oakhurst neighborhood. They offer an integrated approach specifically suited for teens and young adults to address these issues head-on.

According to Alyson Kuroski-Mazzei, DO, DFAPA, FASAM, HopeWay’s CEO & Chief Medical Officer, “The need for care and programming for adolescents and young adults is severe and immediate, so we are thrilled about opening these new programs. We know our model of care works, and we are excited and confident to expand hope and bring additional mental health resources to this younger age group.”

The Need is Now

As mental health challenges continue to rise, the importance of HopeWay’s new programs has never been more evident.

“The U.S. Surgeon General has described the state of youth mental health as the ‘defining public health crisis of our time,’” Dr. Kuroski-Mazzei shares.

Many Charlotte families have found themselves in an ongoing search for the right care locally for their teens.

Recognizing this need, HopeWay is committed to bridging the gap, offering a beacon of hope and structured support for those who need it most.

HopeWay’s Doors are Open

Charlotte’s young residents struggling with eating disorders, depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, and co-occurring substance use disorders now have a new place to turn for healing and hope.

HopeWay’s 18,716 square-foot facility at 4014 Monroe Road will provide physician-led, evidence-based Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) that include psychotherapy, medication management, integrative therapies, and on-site educational support.

With teen mental health disorders and eating disorders on the rise, HopeWay’s comprehensive  treatment model led by Taren Coley, MD, and Greer Mitchell, MD, JD, couldn’t arrive at a more critical time.
