Recently Opened Charlotte Sushi Spots
Yama LoSo
3535 Dewitt Ln
Yama LoSo, which opened in February of 2023, has been a welcome addition to the LoSo neighborhood with its modern interior and delicious sushi rolls. The speciality and classic roll options are plentiful, but if you’re looking for something particularly indulgent we recommend the Morrison roll which is a tempura shrimp roll topped with seared filet mignon, spring onions and spicy aioli.
SushiHana
1515 S Tryon St (South End)
15719 Brixham Hill Ave (Ballantyne)
If you’re looking for an all-you-can-eat sushi spot, check out SushiHana in either South End or the recently opened Ballantyne location. For a set price, you can order as much sushi as your heart desires — the menu includes sashimi, nigiri, classic rolls, chef speciality rolls, hot kitchen entrees and even a few desserts. But beware, you will get charged extra if you order something and don’t finish it! And if all-you-can-eat isn’t your thing, you can order a la carte off the menu as well.
Oshen Sushi

Oshen Sushi, which opened at the end of 2024, is brought to Charlotte by the owners of Yunta. This truly stunning sushi restaurant offers affordable yet delicious sushi. Enjoy crudos, tartares, sushi rolls, nigiri and sashimi off the menu. Plus, Oshen offers a selection of hot entrees such as dumplings, fried rice and udon noodles.
Tora Izakaya
6925 University City Blvd, Suite 420
Nestled in the University Area sits Tora Izakaya, a newly opened, casual sushi eatery. Sushi offerings include classics such as salmon-avocado rolls, as well as speciality rolls such as the Mr. Alaska roll with seasoned lobster, cucumber and asparagus tempura, topped with shrimp, avocado, citrus mayo, sweet chili, sesame seeds and scallions.

Yamazaru Sushi & Sake

Located in the heart of South End, Yamazaru has been a Charlotte fan-favorite sushi spot for years. The large menu includes all your favorite classic sushi rolls, as well as rice bowls, sashimi, nigiri and specialty rolls. Plus, if you can’t choose your favorite items, Yamazaru offers a selection of combination platters and dishes to get a taste of everything.
Ru San’s

Ru San’s has been serving Charlotte sushi for over twenty years! The expansive menu has quite literally every sushi dish and roll you could dream of, with the speciality roll selection being so long, it’s actually organized alphabetically. But no matter what you decide to get from this Charlotte sushi institution, it’s sure to be delicious.
Yume Ramen Sushi & Bar

Yume, which originally opened in Matthews in 2017 and re-located to South End, is a Charlotte classic. Whether you choose to dine-in or take-out, Yume offers over fifty different rolls, as well as nigiri, sashimi and sushi sets to taste a bit of everything.
Prime Fish

Established in 2020, Prime Fish has gained a cult-like following in the Charlotte area for the fresh, high-quality fish the restaurant serves. Nigiri and sashimi are must orders here, with options to do a tuna or salmon tasting on the menu. After your appetizer, select your favorite from the classic or chef speciality dinner sushi rolls, but rest assured you won’t have a bad bite no matter what you order. Plus, if you want to pick up wine, sake or fresh sushi and meat, Prime Fish Cellar is a speciality store opened by the brand and located on Providence Road.
New Zealand Cafe

If you ask a Charlotte resident about their favorite sushi spot, New Zealand Cafe is almost always in the running. The casual and affordable eatery has the menu split into maki sushi, bigger rolls, speciality rolls, new sushi rolls, sushi combinations, hand rolls and bento boxes. Clearly, there’s something delicious for everyone at New Zealand Cafe.
Nikko Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar

A staple in Charlotte since 1999, Nikko Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar can definitely satisfy your sushi craving. The menu is extensive and if you visit on a Sunday, you can enjoy half-priced sushi rolls, excluding speciality rolls.

We love Pisces Sushi Bar & Lounge for the killer lunch deal offered Tuesday through Saturday until 3PM. During this time, you can get any two rolls for $12.95 or any three rolls for $16.95 from an extensive special menu. Your entree is served with soup and salad, and there’s even sushi, nigiri and sashimi combos as well. If you can’t make it for lunch, Pisces offers all-you-can-eat (at the South End location) and a la carte menus as well.
Konnichiwa

Konnichiwa is a charming sushi spot in Dilworth. Small plates such as tuna crispy rice, spicy sashimi salad and more make it easy to try multiple items on the menu to start, then you can select your favorites among the sushi rolls and vegetarian rolls on the menu. Plus, Konnichiwa also offers catering platters if you’re looking to feed sushi to a large group.
Sushi Bowl+

This quick and casual sushi spot allows you to customize a sushi bowl exactly as you wish. Choose a base of rice or salad, then select up to four protein options such as tuna, salmon, chicken and more. Finish up with toppings and sauces for an affordable and tasty meal.
The Cowfish

The Cowfish is a great option for dining out with a large group. The menu features a selection of both sushi and burgers, so there’s bound to be something for everyone. Kappo En

Hidden away through the back door of a ramen restaurant in Elizabeth is Kappo En, a luxury omakase dining experience perfect for those celebrating a special occasion. Over the course of the night, you’ll sit at a bar and watch the chefs prepare and serve a Japanese tasting menu complete with incredibly high-quality nigiri, A5 wagyu, and more. This tasting menu is one sushi lovers in Charlotte absolutely can not miss.
O-Ku

O-Ku is a Charlotte staple for celebrations. Not only is the sushi delicious, but when the staff knows you’re celebrating, you’ll receive a custom menu with a message fit for your occasion such as “happy birthday!” or “happy anniversary!” This attention to detail and the mouth-watering food make O-Ku fit for a celebration of any kind.
Yunta

Ever since Yunta opened its doors to Charlotte a couple of years ago, it has been tough to get a reservation — and that’s for a good reason. Yunta’s Peruvian-Japanese fusion menu brought something completely new to the city’s dining scene, and the food the restaurant serves is simply out of this world. Ceviche, panza (salmon) nigiri and beef nigiri are absolute must-orders during any Yunta visit.
Saku Yakitori & Sushi Bar

This Uptown Charlotte sushi spot is decorated with pink flowers everywhere, making for a truly stunning dining experience. In addition to the yakitori and small plates on the menu, there’s a large selection of classic and signature rolls available for order.
Mizu

Mizu is a SouthPark rooftop melding Asian flavors and Southern ingredients. The maki rolls are all delicious, but we particularly love the Dragon Roll with eel, tempura shrimp, avocado and sweet soy, as well as the Tuna Crunch Roll with spicy tuna, cucumber and crispy tempura.
Tora Sushi & Bar

Located in Wesley Heights is Tora Sushi & Bar. On the menu you’ll find all the traditional sushi rolls you know and love, as well as a few more over the top options perfect to order for a celebration. For example, the Buzz City Lobster Roll which includes lobster tempura, avocado, truffle mayo and is topped with red tobiko, citrus mayo sauce, sesame seeds, & scallions includes an entire lobster tail sticking out of the middle!
Hestia Rooftop

Celebrate your special occasion at Ballantyne’s only rooftop, Hestia. Nigiri and sashimi options are plentiful and speciality maki rolls such as the Golden Scallop, Lobster Luxe, Vegetarian, are sure to leave you satisfied.
