Black Women Behind the Lens: Representation in Film

In partnership with Independent Picture House, join Harvey B. Gantt Center as they highlight the contributions of Black women filmmakers throughout history. Featuring curator and writer Taylor Bythewood-Porter, this collective analysis includes a panel discussion of influential Black women film artists, and contemporary artists featured in the American Gurl exhibition, such as Savannah Leaf and Lorna Simpson. There, they’ll explore themes of decentering the gaze, storytelling, and self-reflection through the lens of Black women in film. Rail Trail Clean Up

Spend your Saturday morning doing some good in the community at the Rail Trail Clean Up. Registration is FREE and will take place anytime between 10am-11am at the New Bern Light Rail Station. Keep Charlotte Beautiful will provide all cleanup supplies as small groups walk the Rail Trail and nearby streets, picking up trash at their own pace. Afterward, join the group at HopFly Brewing Co. at 12 PM for a Volunteer Appreciation Event, where volunteers 21+ will receive a free drink ticket and a raffle ticket for a chance to win 30+ prizes from local businesses.

The second No Mans Land festival and market will be held in Charlotte on March 22nd and is designed to celebrate all women. The wait is over—pick-your-own tulip fields will open on Wednesday, March 19. Visit Howard Family Farm Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM, or Sunday from 1 PM to 5 PM.
