Spring Cleaning and Winter Storage. Time to Get to It Girls.

One day of 70 degree weather and I’m already itching to pack away my winter clothes and break out the shorts and swimsuits. This winter has been excruciating, and I can only imagine you are all feeling the same way. Before you ball up your sweaters and toss them in a box in the spare closet, stock up on storage supplies and try some of our favorite tips to keep your winter wardrobe in tip top shape. And hope it will be many, many months before you’ll need it again.

1. Clean everything. Wash or take all of your items to the dry cleaners before packing them away for the season. And definitely remove them from the dry cleaning bags for goodness sakes.

2. Invest in quality storage. You spend hundreds of thousands on your wardrobe, so are you really gonna shove it in a $2 bin? Pack away sweaters and coats neatly folded in durable plastic containers.

3. Silks and other delicate fabrics should be stored in cotton canvas bags to prevent yellowing.

4. Store baskets and bins in a cool, dry and dark place. Try a spare closet or under a bed and avoid hot, humid locations like attics.

5. We love our fall boots, so take care of them by investing in a quality boot bin and some boot forms to maintain their shape. Stuff other shoes with tissue paper for the same purpose.

6. Label, label, label. Clear plastic bins are great, but sometimes it’s hard to see everything. Erasable labels are a lifesaver next season when you go to unpack everything again.
