One cold, clear Friday night in the middle of winter, while the northern lights hover in the sky above, Almost’s residents find themselves falling in and out of love in the strangest ways. The entire family will love this play at Armour Street Theatre Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Showtimes for Almost, Maine vary. Tickets are $8. For more information, visit here.

The Warehouse Performing Arts Center will show Mr. Turner Friday, July 31, and Saturday, Aug. 1 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 2 at 3 p.m. Mr. Turner was nominated for numerous awards in 2015 and the Boston Globe called it “One of the most rhapsodic films you may ever see.” The film explores the last quarter century of the great British painter J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851). Turner was an innovative and controversial Romanticist landscape painter whose work is regarded as an important preface to the French impressionists like Monet, Manet, and Renoir. Profoundly affected by the death of his father, loved by a housekeeper he takes for granted and occasionally exploits sexually, he forms a close relationship with a seaside landlady with whom he eventually lives incognito in Chelsea. Throughout this, he travels, paints, stays with the country aristocracy, visits brothels, is a popular if anarchic member of the Royal Academy of Arts, has himself strapped to the mast of a ship so that he can paint a snowstorm, and is both celebrated and reviled by the public and by royalty. Doors open 6:15 pm for complimentary wine and cheese reception, and art gallery browsing. The cost is $9 general admission and $5 students.
