It’s my most favorite time of the year…consignment sales season! Spring & Summer sales kicked off at the beginning of February, and continue through March. Plenty of opportunity to find some great children’s clothing, furniture, toys, gear and more at a fraction of the retail price. But, before you shop or sell at one (or all) of these sales, here’s our quick tip list. Â (SCROLL DOWN FOR THIS WEEK’S VIP GIVEAWAY)
Tips for shopping:
- Early bird gets the worm: get there and get in line before the sale opens to get your pick of inventory.
- Be comfy: Do NOT wear your heels or your fur coat. This is a perfect place to wear yoga pants and not feel guilty for not being AT yoga.
- Lighten your load: bring a BIG shopping bag (or 2) or a laundry basket with a D ring belt through a handle (you can pull it along the floor)…you will find more than you think, and you’ll need something to carry it in.
- Check your current inventory: make a list of what you need for each child with sizes, colors, etc.
- Get shoe size right: trace each child’s foot on cardstock, cut out and stick in your purse. You’ll come home with perfectly sized shoes.
Tips for selling:
- Keep it clean: launder all clothing (and shoes if possible) that you’re planning to sell. Don’t bother with stained, torn or damaged items…sales have quality control and you’ll just end up getting those items back.
- Mark it Down: always choose to sell at 1/2 price if there is a 1/2 price sale. Some is better than none and half price shoppers are only looking for deals.
- Give back: Donate what doesn’t sell. These sales partner with community organizations who will get your unsold items to families in need…most sales offer a tax receipt for donations as well.
- Be in the know: make sure you know the tagging guidelines for each sale (which program, tagging gun or pins, how to hang items, what they do/don’t accept, etc.). You don’t want to waste your time doing it wrong.
