From pizza to pinot, The ‘Tyne is poplin’ this week. Here’s what’s going on in the 28277:
EAT
Inizio Pizza Napoletana
1020 Providence Road (Providence Commons shopping center)
Far from your typical pizza joint, Inizio will make you rethink the way you view a classic pie. Ingredients are imported directly from Italy, placed on a naturally rising crust and baked inside a wood-fired oven in less than 90 seconds.
The vibe is casual, with some funky industrial inspiration thanks to wooden tables anchored with old-school metal pipes. It’s the perfect place to have a chill date or share some slices with the whole crew.
Our faves are the Pistacchio (rosemary, sea salt, ricotta, buffalo mozzarella, garlic and pistachio pesto sauce) and the Luigi (broccoli Rabe, sausage, buffalo mozzarella, garlic, pecorino cheese and calabrian agrodolce – a yummy sweet and sour sauce).
DRINK
Earth-friendly wine tasting at Gallery Bar in the Ballantyne Hotel
10000 Ballantyne Commons Parkway
Friday April 22
Grab your Earth Day Loving friend (or any wine-loving friend) and head to the Gallery Bar at 6:30 p.m. Friday for a tasting of wines from Sokol Blosser winery. Sokol Blosser is known for farming 100 percent organic grapes and following sustainable agriculture and winemaking practices.
The winery has been family-owned and operated since 1971, long before the Oregon wine industry was even a thing, and it’s since made its mark nationwide.
Tastings include a pinot gris, pinot noir and pinot noir rose. Tastings are $35 per person and reservations are recommended at 704-248-4100.
