Pantone, the color gurus, have released their Fall 2016 color report –> gathering intelligence from the runways, translating the direction for us, explaining the mood and meaning, and pretty much predicting what colors you’ll see around you for the next several months.
According to Pantone, the Fall ’16 palette shows “a desire for tranquility, strength, and optimism (hmm no kidding)….that is led by the Blue family. Along with anchoring earth tones, exuberant pops of vibrant colors also appear throughout the collections. …these unexpectedly vivacious colors in our Fall 2016 palette act as playful but structured departures from your more typical fall shades. Blue skies represent constancy as they are always above us. Grays give a feeling of stability, Red tones invite confidence and warmth, while the hot Pinkish Purples and Spicy Mustard Yellows suggest a touch of the exotic.”
There are 1-2 earthier and traditional “autumny” shades, but really, this Fall does seem to be about unexpected colors and unexpected color combinations. If you do see a russet or a grey, you will see it paired with blue, lilac, emerald and mustard yellow. And these blues, as the base for fall and often paired together, now that’s something new & different.
