When I began looking for bridesmaids dresses and talking with everyone about the best ways to choose your color palette , I remember a florist telling me that green is a neutral. This statement was so astonishing, that a color so pretty could read as a “neutral!” Since then, I’ve been fascinated with color theory. That was ten years ago.
Fast forward to today when the Pantone Color Institute recently announced “Greenery” is the Color of the Year for 2017. Leatrice Eiseman, the Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute says, “Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the reassurance we yearn for amid a tumultuous social and political environment. Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalize, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and with a larger purpose.” Greenery has also been described as symbolic of new beginnings, nature’s neutral and a life-affirming shade.
Nearly everyone can wear green, it just depends on the shade of it. According to Jill Kirsch, “Hollywood’s guru of hue,” your haircolor is what determines the colors you should wear. She asserts that warm blondes should wear kelly green, olive green for golden browns and redheads, emerald green for deep brunettes, and muted mint green for women with ash blonde, platinum and gray hair.
Everyone is buzzing about Greenery; in this article, eight designers talk about their favorite green paint. Famed HGTV designer Joanna Gaines uses green in almost every home design, as it pairs well with the whites of farmhouse chic, the bright colors of a coastal getaway or rich leathers in a mountain cabin.
Here at Scoop, we’ve scoured the local boutiques and design stores for this unique shade of green. While we found some pretty close matches, we also spotted green in several shades riding in on this trend. We’re seeing lots of military green and grey greens right now, probably ’cause it’s winter. But keep your eyes peeled for a pop of Greenery to add to your home or wardrobe!
