The Shops at Morrison just got a lot more luxurious. Nationally acclaimed artist Anne Neilson just opened a new gallery showcasing over 40 artists from around the globe in one convenient location. With a mission to “be a lighthouse in our community by giving back through art,” Neilson combines passion and purpose to create one of the most unique galleries Charlotte has the honor of calling our own.
Anne Neilson’s gallery hosts both emerging and internationally recognized artists and includes work by sculptors, photographers, and painters. A full list of the participating artists, including Anne herself, can be found on the “ANFA” website. Interested in seeing the work in person? The gallery is open Monday through Saturday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm with knowledgeable staff ready and willing to walk you through the stories behind each exhibit. While you are there, make an effort to see Anne’s favorite piece in the gallery right now, Bethanne Kinsella Cople’s We Walked By The Sea. Bethanne’s oil paintings “give texture and life to her pieces, drawing you into the environment she has painted.”
The opening of this South Park gallery is an exciting addition to Charlotte’s creative scene. When we asked Anne why she chose the QC as the location for her gallery, she proudly responded that “Charlotte is home.” While she was originally born and raised in Florida, Anne knew the second she stepped foot in this city that this would be where she would plant her roots. Since then, Anne has made it a priority to “be a champion to the thriving arts scene and become a leader in generosity to those less fortunate.” She has done exactly that.
At Anne Neilson’s gallery, you can feel good about your purchase. Not only will you be walking home with a one of a kind piece, but a full heart since a portion of every sale is donated to support  local, national, and international organizations. Since she started her career, Anne has always had a little voice in the back of her head reminding her to “paint and give back.” Opening a collaborative gallery has given her the opportunity to continue to do so and inspire other artists to do the same. Since art is extremely personal and “speaks uniquely to every person,” curating a gallery with a large range of aesthetics only expands the potential to touch even more of those in need.
The gallery is looking forward to a busy calendar of events including exhibition openers, a wide range of lunch & learns, pop up shops, and Scoop’s favorite, wine tastings. The space will also be available for rent by outside businesses to host meetings and other events. If you are more inclined to visit on your own time, the gallery’s friendly staff cannot wait to see you. Though art can be intimidating, Anne’s experts pride themselves on staying as approachable as possible. Instead of a history lesson, expect staff to walk you through the “stories behind each of the carefully curated pieces.” Since this gallery gives both newer and established artists the opportunity to call it home, the prices and artistic interests expand to fit everyone’s personal taste and budget.
Anne’s passion for art and for Charlotte has given her the opportunity to create a legacy where “art and faith commingle to better lives throughout the world.” Â We can’t wait to see the sure success of this next step in Anne Neilson’s artistry career.
