There’s cute stuff every year for Halloween, but being a Scoop-fan we know you need to take it to the next level while maintaining your sense of style. Whether you use these store-bought options to make life easier, or get inspired to create your own, here are our top picks on what’s trending in Halloween Costumes for Ghosts & Goblins of all ages.
Infants
Ahh the littles… this is the best and worst age for costumes. Arguably they’ll never look cuter – octopus anyone – but it also comes with concerns such as are they overheating and did she just eat that pumpkin-sequin from her lapel.
We recommend keeping it simple at this age, and onesies are the way to go – comfort without sacrificing creativity or your cool factor. “I Vant to Suck Your Boob”, “Mamma Is My Boo”, and “Tales From The Crib” are just a few of our faves.
Toddlers
For whatever reason this age-group often skews animal-or-hero-related with everything from the classic pumpkin to fish, firefighters, police and unicorns. Pottery Barn Kids, while they tend to be on the spendy side, if your nerves and wallet can wait it out they often have good sales on costumes close to Halloween. Popular movie heroes this year will be Wonder Woman, Spider Man, Star Wars, and any of the Avengers.
Older Kids
On-trend for the 4-8 year olds always includes the latest movies and TV shows… this year it’s all about Legos and ninjas, princesses and big-haired trolls and… poop (think The Emoji Movie). Party City, Morris Costumes and Target usually have a lot of inventory and all the accessories to make some Halloween movie magic without too much stress.
Teens
This is when things can get really scary, most likely because you may have only just realized that you have a teenager in the house, and gone are the days of caterpillar and butterfly costumes. If they are not too cool to still trick or treat, many teens skew on the horror side with ghouls, goblins, blood and guts… you get the idea. Halloween Express stores (that seem to pop-up out of nowhere alarmingly early each year) are a great place to shop for costume accessories, as teens often like to just don a mask or make up to be chill with Halloween.
Family Costumes
Oh how I adore the family costume, those that put forth the effort to represent as a team… I also admire your time management skills, passion and lack of concern for what the rest of us slackers may think; from a medieval court, to a ship of swashbuckling pirates or simply coordinating pajamas, Chasing Fireflies has it all.
Politics + Pets
Interesting category… not necessarily related. But, if you fancy introducing politics in a frighteningly fun way there are many new arrivals to consider including the no doubt ubiquitous Trump Wig, a ‘Trumpkin Patch’ shirt, the Kim Jong Un face mask. You can even carry from door-to-door a life-size pantsuit wearing Hillary Clinton or Vladmir Putin cutout. And, don’t forget fido… after all, what’s more delish than a ‘hot dog‘ on Halloween or you know, a unicorn dog?
