It’s A New Year! Things to Do with Family This Week Starting 1/1/18

OK, Scoop Families, it’s going to be another cold one this week, so we’ve picked some indoor spots to help you stay warm (and keep your sanity).

First Footin’ at Rural Hill
Rural Hill, Huntersville
January 1, 11:00 a.m., free

But, we are opening with an ‘outside activity’…  celebrate the New Year – Scottish style, with a walk outdoors. Note, the vigorous hike around the farm’s 2.25 mile trail may not be best for your youngest family members. Bring snacks for a group luncheon after the walk.

If setting a brisk pace doesn’t sound like your cup of tea on New Year’s Day… how about brunch? Try The Westin, 204 North Kitchen & Cocktails, or Draught.

Amazon Adventure in IMAX
Discovery Place Science, Charlotte
Tuesday, Janurary 2, 11:00 a.m. $5-10

Amazon Adventure in IMAX tells the epic, true story of explorer Henry Bates’ fascinating journey through the visually stunning and biodiverse Amazon rainforest.

There’s also a lot happening at the Libraries today including Family Story Time at the Matthews branch, and Listen and Move for preschoolers at the North County branch.

Lazy 5 Ranch, Mooresville
Daily, usually 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., $8-11 (they don’t take cards!)

Stay warm and drive-by zebras, llamas, the cutest pot-belly pigs you’ll ever see, giraffes and more.

Board Game Night, Barnes and Noble, The Arboretum
Thursday, January 4, 6:00 p.m.

Bring the heat and your favorite game from home to play, or Barnes & Noble carries Ticket to Ride, Machi Koro, Superfight, Munchkin, Star Wars Chess and more.

Monster Jam
Spectrum Center, Charlotte
Friday, January 5 (through 6), Tix start at $15

Monster Jam, is an adrenaline-charged motorsport experience for families; featuring six trucks and drivers vying to be the Charlotte champion.

Vulture Feeding
Carolina Raptor Center, Huntersville
Saturday January 6, (every Saturday through May), noon, free with admission

Take a walk through vulture culture and observe as a docent feeds some of the smartest birds on earth; warning they love to play with their food and remember, they aren’t vegetarians…

Adventure Landing, Pineville
Sunday, hours and prices vary based on activity, usually opens at 10:00 a.m.

Miniature golf, arcade games, go-karts and more at Adventure Landing will keep you warm in this weather.
