Just as our fingerprints are all unique, so is our interpretation of the world. This is because we all have different experiences, lifestyles, and backgrounds. We translate this into various mechanisms, such as the way we dress, our pastimes, or the way to decorate our homes.
Katie Emmons is a licensed interior designer that wants to help translate your design voice into your home. “To me, interior design and interior decorating are about uncovering the heart and soul of a person, a family, or a company, and then reinterpreting that essence in tangible, creative ways I believe the aesthetics and emotional feel of a space are just as important as the functionality,” comments Emmons. “Your living or working environment should provide inspiration and comfort while supporting and facilitating your daily routine.”

What drew you to interior design?
I see creativity as a God-given gift- one that flowed from my grandmother, Mamie, in nearly every aspect of her life. Her paintings, drawings, and handmade furnishings had such a strong influence on me. I’m honored to be part of a legacy that embraces the imaginative spirit and creates beauty for the enjoyment of others- this is what I truly love doing.
What is your favorite Charlotte restaurant? And what dream dinner guest would you love to accompany you?
My favorite restaurant is Bakersfield on East Blvd. My dream dinner guest would be Reese Witherspoon; she seems like she has that great southern sense of humor that I relate to so well.
Where do you go for the best cocktails in Charlotte?
I love Soul Gastrolounge.
Do you have any favorite design blog you follow religiously?
Right now my absolute favorite is Katie Hackworth with H2 Design and Build.
Do you have an all-time favorite piece of furniture?
My favorite would have to be an antique English coffer that I won personally. I think it’s the combination of the beautifully rich patina and the clean lines that really speak to me. I also love that it only gets more beautiful with age.
