We’ve got a serious case of spring fever, so we’re releasing our round-up of best patios in Charlotte at the first sign of warmer temperatures to give you time to try them all. Here’s where you should be sipping and dining al fresco all spring and summer long, organized by neighborhood to make planning easy.

Uptown
Don’t let the bustle of the city fool you. Whether you’re looking for somewhere to grab happy hour drinks after the clock strikes five or you’re coming into the city for a ball game, Uptown has plenty of spacious patios.
Snap an Insta-worthy skyline pic from the patio of Fahrenheit, where Chef Rocco Whalen is whipping up culinary favorites like slow braised Kobe beef short ribs and the bar keeps craft cocktails like the Spicy Charlotte flowing. Grab a front row seat to one of Charlotte’s picture perfect sunsets as you sip on your new favorite cocktail and order from their bar bites menu.
Enjoy Angeline’s modern American, Italian-influenced fare on the stunning patio that invites you to escape and relax amid the city’s hustle and bustle.
Visit the cocktail team at Fin & Fino, BK and the Clams (pictured below), and sip on their small patio on the Levine Avenue for the Arts (if you can tear yourself away from the very popular bar that is)
For a workday fix, escape the office and head to the welcoming sidewalk patio at Reid’s Fine Foods’ new Uptown location. It’s the perfect spot to indulge in a quick breakfast, lunch or coffee al fresco.
Make a point to visit Merchant and Trade, situated on the 19th floor of the Kimpton Tryon Park Hotel. Grab a craft cocktail at bar and wander from the terrace to the lawn to take in the stunning city views.
For new takes on classic Southern fare, grab a table at Mimosa Grill, where you can enjoy seasonal flavors from Executive Chef Thomas Marlow.
JP Charlotte’s fresh and lively space is a great after work spot to enjoy their modern take on classic menu offerings like Brick Fired steaks, burgers, and flatbreads, Giant Wild Shrimp and Grits, and Hand-Cut to Order Fries, which are complemented by a vibrant selection of world-class wines and a carefully curated cocktail program.
Uptown’s La Belle Helene is just as stunning outside as it is inside. Dine on French bistro fare from the patio to enjoy the early spring weather.
Appropriately situated on the corner of Trade and Tryon, Essex Bar & Bistro brings a fusion of handcrafted food and drink to Uptown. The first thing you’ll notice is the beautiful patio overlooking our city’s busiest hub, but you won’t be disappointed with their menu blending international cuisines.
For jazz and craft cocktails with a view, grab a seat at The Imperial. Enjoy live jazz every Thursday – Saturday, half-price martinis on Thursday sand half-price wine on Wednesdays.
At Ink N Ivy, the sleek resturant/bar concept boasts an expansive patio overlooking Romare Bearden Park. Grab a drink or a sharable app after work to soak in the view and eclectic decor.
Check out Sea Level, a farm-to-fork concept focused on local NC seafood. For Uptown workers, this means fresh seafood lunch specials and a happening happy hour featuring dollar oysters Monday-Saturday from 4-7 PM. Their patio is an urban oasis that opens up to 5th Street. Another huge bonus? Free parking.
Tucked into the Mint Museum Uptown, Halcyon, Flavors from the Earth boasts a terrace overlooking the action happening below on College Street. The restaurant focuses on hand-crafted farm-to-table fare and creative cocktails.
On the cusp of Uptown is your ultimate outdoor dining destination. The restaurants in the Metropolitan offer some of the best skyline views anytime of day. So whether you’re stopping by Vivace for brunch, Dressler’s for dinner, or Hickory Tavern for the game, you can’t go wrong.
South End
As the culinary and bar scene grows in South End, so do its patio options. Enjoy the patio or rooftop bar at The Waterman, where fresh seafood options abound. Hawkers Asian Street Fare, another newcomer to the neighborhood, boasts a colorful patio that opens up to the dining area and overlooks Jeni’s Ice Cream.
More recently opened options include Barcelona Wine Bar’s courtyard-style patio, Sweet Lew’s BBQ’s casual picnic table seating and Common Market South End’s industrial digs. Max and Lola Bodega offers plenty of outdoor seating, including a grassy area with picnic tables.
Enjoy Mexican street food with a SoCal twist at Southbound’s expansive and colorful patio overlooking bustling South Boulevard. Don’t miss out on a trip to their taco stand. Another addition to the neighborhood is Leroy Fox‘s South End expansion.
A few light rail stops down, the bars and restaurants in South End Station overflow with spirited fans on gameday and beyond. Hot Taco, Slate Billiards and All-American Pub all offer a fun patio atmosphere along the light rail.
Tupelo Honey serves up a charming terrace atmosphere that’s almost as sweet as the jam served with their heavenly biscuits.
If healthy eating is your game, Luna’s is the name. Grab a seat at Luna’s Living Kitchen to enjoy your veggies with a view of the rail trail.
Quench your thirst for local brews at Sycamore Brewing. Their expanded patio sets the stage for the ever-popular Food Truck Friday rallies and is sure to be packed all weekend long. Other popular breweries that boast lively patios include Lenny Boy Brewing Company and Triple C Brewing. Grab a picnic table and one of their many rotating tap beers for an afternoon of sipping and patio sitting.
There’s something for everyone at The Suffolk Punch and Hyde Brewing. Opt for a fresh brew, cocktail or order sharable plates from their impressive patio space.
Enjoy the best of BBQ/Korean fusion, family style, at Seoul Food. Venture out back to explore their massive patio space, fully equipped with games and activities.
Care for some slurp with your city view? Futo Buta serves up high-end ramen bowls on their patio that overlooks the South End Rail Trail and the Uptown skyline.
For a patio with a southern accent, head down South Boulevard for classic North Carolina BBQ. Mac’s Speed Shop’s renovated patio accommodates guests at long picnic tables and live bands every Sunday starting at 5 PM.
Two more newcomers to South End boast impressive outdoor gathering spaces. Pour your own beer and wine at Hoppin‘, where lawn games await on the patio. And, toast with a craft cocktail and sharable small plates at Zeppelin.
LoSo
This bustling area of town features several noteworthy patios within just a few blocks, with more exciting projects in the works. Brewers at 4001 Yancey has both covered and uncovered seating, with views of the big games from every angle.
The Broken Spoke extends their community atmosphere onto an outdoor patio dotted with umbrellas for sunny days.
It’s all fun and games at Queen Park Social, where competitors can take a break from skeeball and bowling to enjoy a cocktail on the lively patio. Still even more patio options abound at Sugar Creek Brewing and GoodRoad CiderWorks.
Plaza Midwood
At Bistro La Bon, enjoy international flavors as the cozy patio welcomes guests for their popular weekend brunch. To grab a brew outdoors, head down Central to Resident Culture Brewing.
When the beer and burger craving hits, head to Moo & Brew. Sink your teeth into one of their tried and true masterpieces, like the “way out west bison burger” or “the backyard classic” as you dine on their patio.
Make reservations at Peculiar Rabbit, known as much for its rooftop patio as its burgers and entrees. We’ve also heard their brunch is a don’t miss, and we can imagine it’s a perfect way to soak up a sunny Sunday.
Around the corner is Whiskey Warehouse, your go-to for a strong drink and a good view. This is a place where you’d be just as comfortable cheering on your favorite team on one of the big screens as you would swinging by for appetizers (they’re half off 4-6 PM M-F) and drinks during a girls happy hour.
Adding a much-anticipated brewery scene to Plaza Midwood, Legion Brewing has an expanded outdoor space perfect for craft beer sipping. Another neighborhood spot is The Workman’s Friend, a casual spot serving craft cocktails and Irish classics in a warm and comfortable atmosphere. Their friendly backyard style patio has plenty of tables and their own built-in bar. Another neighborhood favorite is the lively Pizza Peel, where you’ll find families chowing down on unique pizza creations and playing games.
Last but not least for Plaza Midwood is Soul Gastrolounge, which when it comes to patios is proof that bigger doesn’t always mean better. Known for it’s small plates and handcrafted cocktails, Soul created an intimate patio setting that overlooks the Uptown skyline and has quite the loyal following.
NoDa
Built out of an old home, enjoying a drink or live music the patio at NoDa Company Store quite literally feels like relaxing in your own backyard. This fusion concept that is part gallery, part bar and part music venue attracts NoDa neighbors from near and far.
The patio at Haberdish is a don’t miss along North Davidson Street, while neighbor Cabo Fish Taco always packs in a healthy patio crowd. Cheers all around.
Dilworth
Welcome Dilworth Tasting Room to the neighborhood, a wine bar with sharable plates and an outdoor oasis in a category of its own. Glass of vino in hand, venture past the koi pond and grab a quiet table tucked under trees and market lights. When it’s time for round two, make your way over to the outdoor bar.
Fran’s Filling Station offers an outside patio that will open on April 25. Enjoy your favorite dishes with a dose of sunshine. Roots Cafe boasts another al fresco option – boasting a patio that doubles as a kind of outdoor oasis.
Occupying the popular corner of East Boulevard and Scott Avenue, newcomer The People’s Market Dilworth encompasses the neighborhood feel with a spacious patio featuring an outdoor fireplace.
Bonterra boasts a sunny and bright outdoor oasis where you can sip your wine in comfortable patio furniture alongside this church turned restaurant.
At Fern, Flavors of the Garden, the large patio wraps around stately trees, making your vegetarian meal even more enjoyable. Nearby, Ed’s Tavern has an indoor/outdoor space that extends into a massive back patio. Perfect for catching the game and their daily drink specials.
300 East not only invites you into their “home,” but also right onto their front porch. Grab a seat, some brunch, a sweet tea and sit a while. Speaking of hospitality, stop by Dilworth Neighborhood Grille’s patio to grab a brew and a bit with your neighbors.
Foxcroft Wine Company’s Dilworth location features a huge patio under market lights, while Kid Cashew serves up fresh Mediterranean fare overlooking lively East Boulevard.
The Summit Room is also welcoming their Dilworth neighbors with open arms. Their patio sits underneath a canopy of twinkling lights strung between old oak trees, and comes complete with rocking chairs.
Just across the street is JJ Red Hot’s, a fun place the kids and the whole family will love. Choose your favorite hot dog from their impressively large menu (who knew you could come up with that many kinds of hot dogs?), and head upstairs. You’ll walk out onto their rooftop dining area where you can watch over all of the happenings on East Boulevard.
SouthPark
Southern food & hospitality with a focus on ingredients from the Carolinas makes Dogwood one of SouthParks populars. The patio is wide and comfortable.
The patio at Reid’s Fine Foods SouthPark is the place to be on weekends and for after-work dinner and drinks. Two nights a week, they host live music. And, there is a special almost every night of the week.
WP Kitchen + Bar’s patio is the perfect place to enjoy the weather while sipping their seasonal and signature cocktails, craft beer or wine. The patio is dog-friendly, and offers a quiet setting to relax, catch up with friends and enjoy weekly specials.
Another area that has no shortage of patio options is South Park. Enjoy today’s freshest catch on the sunny patio at Upstream in Phillips Place. Sip and savor on the third Friday of each month with three wine tastings paired with three delicious bites by the chefs.
Nearby, Harper’s SouthPark serves up fresh takes on classic American fare, plus wood-fired pizzas. Enjoy your favorites on their sunny patio.
Over in another section of the neighborhood at The Village at SouthPark is Cowfish, and they always have a strong patio bunch. And it’s easy to understand the crowds: imagine a perfectly paired lunch of an American burger and Japanese sushi together on a patio bursting with the energy of SouthPark shoppers. Get there early to grab a seat.
Across the street in the Specialty Shops is Toscana, where diners enjoy peaceful courtyard seating in the beautiful Spring weather. Toscana is known for its authentic Tuscan cuisine and house-made pasta.
Tucked back on Ashley Park Lane (behind Whole Foods) are Corkbuzz and The Cellar at Corkbuzz, whose shared patio offers al fresco seating that pairs perfectly with their expansive wine selection and delectable menu. Visit on the weekend for brunch to join the champagne campaign, bottles are half off.
Leroy Fox on Sharon Amity is a great pick for a family lunch or late night drinks with girlfriends. Their patio is like a restaurant of its own, with plenty of homey touches and big screens to keep everyone happy. Plus their drink menu is one of the best in town, taking up a full page of their menu Keep up with their specials here.
And the Village Tavern patio on Barclay Downs is a long time favorite of Charlotteans. The restaurant interior is clubby and tavern-like, but the expansive patio offers dozens of tables to enjoy our sunny southern days. Village Tavern is another great option for family patio meals, with a designated kids menu, and a popular Sunday brunch.
Myers Park / Eastover
Along Montford Drive, there’s no shortage of spots to sip and dine. But if you’re on the hunt for a lively year-round patio with TV’s and plenty of space, look no further than Angry Ale’s. Grab some wings and beers and you’re set for Saturday.
Let’s continue with Napa on Providence. This Napa Valley inspired eatery lives and breathes everything vino-from their interior design to the airy feel of their patio. Enjoy their 5-7 happy hour special, when appetizers are priced between $5-$7 from 5 PM- 7PM Sunday-Friday. Make it a destination on Wednesdays and Thursdays to add live music to the mix.
Neighborhood favorite Selwyn Pub takes advantage of their outdoor patio and has a healthy happy hour following and is a fan favorite for game day watchers. Ru Ru’s Tacos + Tequila lives up to its name with a huge menu of tacos and margaritas to choose from (their Margarita Monday special makes them only $5). Enjoy both on the festive patio complete with its own outdoor bar.
We’re moving over to Park Road Shopping Center, where a new great addition seems to be announced almost every day. Co, a pan-Asian eatery with a modern feel, is welcoming patio season with a colorful outdoor dining concept in a cozy alleyway. Craving seafood? Rocksalt lets you enjoy a craft beer or glass of wine with your oysters on their patio overlooking the greenway. At Burtons Grill & Bar, the sleek modern feel extends to the patio, where you can feast on classic steakhouse favorites. Also in Park Road Shopping Center, Sir Edmund Halley’s serves up tasty pub fare with a casual garden patio to match.
Across the street, Pasta and Provisions provides creates the perfect setting to enjoy your caprese pizza with outdoor furniture and a funky mural.
To round out our Myers Park picks, we have 10 Park Lanes with an unexpectedly large wraparound patio (complete with games) and Brawley’s Beverage that packs in a healthy happy hour crowd.
Elizabeth
Watch the trolley ride by with a coffee or one of Earl’s Grocery daily specials on the patio facing Elizabeth Avenue. A few doors down, the enclosed patio at Viva Chicken brings their chic and relaxed vibe outside and is perfect for enjoying plenty of their homemade peruvian sauces.
On 7th Street, dine on the second floor patio at Cajun Queen while enjoying a sunny Sunday Brunch or live jazz seven nights a week. Moving further down the street, the patio at Fig Tree contributes to the restaurant’s romantic atmosphere with tables lining the front of the house-style restaurant.
South Charlotte/Ballantyne
The fun’s not limited to the Uptown neighborhoods. Stop by Char Bar No. 7, where garage doors open up to a cozy covered patio complete with comfy couches and a fireplace. In the Colony Place shopping center, the patio at The Lodge Sportsmans Grill is filled with lively game watchers and is well-equipped for kiddos. Quail Corners boasts a traditional Italian al fresco dining experience at Ilios Noche. Trio Restaurant offers a natural oasis, often complete with live music.
Heading into Ballantyne, patio diners can sit back and relax at Stone Mountain Grill, where the patio feels more like a welcoming back porch. The Ballantyne location of Charlotte favorite Hickory Tavern brings the indoors outside on their covered patio (don’t worry, you can still see the game!)
In Stonecrest Shopping Center, grab a table at Firebirds on their garden style covered patio. Also in Stonecrest, the new Basil Thai offers a sprawling patio with a primetime view of the fountains.
To round out our Ballantyne picks we’ll head over to Ballantyne Village, where shops and restaurants fit seamlessly into the lively scene. Terrace Cafe of Ballantyne has a patio in the heart of all the action.
And beyond.
Along the shores of Lake Norman, sip a cocktail or nibble on small plates at Hello, Sailor in Cornelius.
In University, Angry Ale’s delights sports-watchers and lunch-goers alike, while over in Belmont, Nellie’s Southern Kitchen boasts a rooftop patio and bar overlooking downtown.
Cap off a day of adventure at the US National Whitewater Center with dinner and a drink at either River’s Edge Bar & Grill or the Pump House Biergarten. Both have unparalleled views of the center’s water and activities.
Kindred Restaurant in Davidson is no stranger to accolades. But we’ll add one more just for good measure. Their enchanting patio is the icing on the cake to a handcrafted meal.
If you’re into fun and games, plan a happy hour with a competitive spirit at Piedmont Social House in Steele Creek. Eat, drink and play all on one great patio.
Get a sense of old downtown with a visit to Beef ‘O’ Brady’s in Fort Mill. Sit along the sidewalk to enjoy some people-watching and neighbor-greeting.
Last but not least is The Pump House in Rock Hill. On the patio your table will overlook the Catawba River. If you’re lucky, you can catch a sunset.
