As temperatures drops and so little of your body shows in your clothing, one little beauty splurge is to try a different look with your manicure. Winter 2019 nail trends range from the ultra high maintenance talon shapes (a little scary looking in my opinion) and nail bling and charms to wearable millennial nudes and edgy dark jewel tones. Creative application techniques also are hot now–like reverse french manis, glitter traced nail beds and graphic designs on select fingers.
Here are a few winter nail trends that caught my eye:
Talons & Coffin Nails
Talon/Stilleto shapes are still super-trendy, but best for those of you whose lifestyles can handle this high maintenance look. Styles range from super-pointy to a clipped tip shape called “coffin nails” as seen on Stealherstyle.net

Yellow Nails
Yellow nails were all over the spring runway shows–I personally loved this look when combined with another trend–two-tone nails paired with a nude base color and in a sheer formula–as featured on fashionweekdaily.com.
Essie Polish in Fall for NYC $9
Bling
Charms and bling were also a big trend on the runways and reminded me of the 80s when I proudly wore a single gold fingernail on my ring finger. This look is harder to pull off IRL–achieved best at a salon and limited to only one finger–here’s a fun take by @nailartfairy.
Black, still
One of my favorite recent nail looks was when Meghan Markle apparently broke with royal protocol and wore inky black polish instead of the usual sheer nude. This one is so chic in winter to contrast with your paler skin tone.

Millennial Nudes
Millennial pink nails are always in style–and they are also an excellent choice for a pre/post engagement when your hands are at center stage–this look features almond shape nails which is elegant and understated. Chanel Le Vernis in Bleached Mauve $28
Glitterati
Glitter polish, which I used to think of as for the preschool set, got an upgrade. This glitter trend is all over Spring 2019 runways and social media in a more amped up but sophisticated version–Dior’s Vibrato is subtle and sheer.
Winter Darks
Darks are so fun and easy to wear in shades like navy, forest and olive green and oxblood. These looks were from Philip Lim’s fall runway show–wearable for fingers or toes.
