Fort Mill blogger and age-positive influencer Jan Correll of Silver is the New Blonde® has been nominated for a Shorty Award, one of the nation’s standout awards for recognizing outstanding content creators on social media. Many scoop readers follow Jan on her IG, and have seen her modeling local store fashions in scoop posts like this one.
In their eleventh year, The Shorty Awards honor the best of social media by acknowledging some of the top companies, brands, and influencers who use their online platforms as a means to engage their followers, and make a difference.
At sixty-one year old, Jan is a rarity in the list of other nominees in the lifestyle category, being the only age-positive influencer, as well as one of the only non-millennial candidates.
Jan and her husband have lived in the greater Charlotte area for almost forty years. Once she discovered how much an age-positive voice was absent from the youth-driven world of social media and blogging, Jan became determined to spread her message of age positivity and acceptance and created Silver is the New Blonde®, which now has over 53,000 followers on Instagram.
Nominated alongside major social media stars including Reese Witherspoon, Joe Biden and Marie Kondo, it is Correll’s hope that winning the noteworthy award would draw more attention to the underrepresented message of age positivity.
“Winning The Shorty Award would allow me to reach more people to spread the age-positive message and would validate my fifty-plus peers as part of the social media community. It’s time aging should be celebrated as the accomplishment it is. After all, we can’t stop it!
The Shorty Award is a “popular vote” contest, meaning the more we vote, the better Jan’s chance of winning. We can vote for Jan to win, once a day through February 21, 2019. If you share your vote on social media, Jan will get an additional vote.
