How To Wear a Maxi.

Maxi’s are a little bit like love.  As in……Opposites attract……Anything Goes……Sometimes it works when you least expect it.  (that last one is for all you under 5’4″ practicing maxi-celibacy).  However, dating advice is another blog.  As for wearing a maxi dress or maxi skirt, here are our tips:

1.  Loose flowy bottoms often look best with fitted tops or belted tops. You’ll see several belts used in the shots below to add structure and avoid the Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman look.

2.  Balance is key.  You’re all covered up on the bottom.  Since it’s summer, show a little skin up top.  Sleeveless, tank tops, bandeaus, v-necks, off the shoulder.   Really, even a crop top or swim suit,  depending on your situation.  You will see the models and the tall & thin wearing a long sweater, jacket, or tunic over their maxi.  And it works.  Two words:  tall.  thin.

3.  A long skirt looks great with a long scarf or necklace.  Flowy.  Just not too hippy.  Consider a long armload of bangles or wrap bracelets or a long slouchy bag.  Just keep something very fitted or you risk Bag Ladyness.

4.  Shoes.  This is not a train ladies.  If you are wearing flats, ’cause you are tall & thin, make sure the length skims the tip of your toes or higher.  If you are wearing platforms or wedges, ’cause you are not tall & thin, you can show some fab shoe.  The amount of shoe depends on the skirt.  The narrower the skirt, the more shoe.  Loose and wide hems need to get closer to the ground.
