Every year for the past 144 years on the first Saturday in May, without fail since 1875, The Kentucky Derby aka the Run for the Roses takes place. If you haven’t been, trust me, it’s one of the most fun, festive and best daytime cocktail parties you’ll ever attend. And, yes there are horse racing and betting in case you run out of people to talk to.
Every year in Charlotte for the past 29 years, the Young Affiliates of the Mint have recreated the fun with their Derby Days party, bringing together more than 400 of Charlotte’s young professionals to enjoy a day of live music; lawn games; Mint Juleps; open wine and beer; food trucks; even a Kentucky Derby raffle. And in case you run out of people to talk to, there’s a large-screen viewing of the Kentucky Derby, dubbed “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports.”
But don’t just take our word for it ~ Derby Days is a long-standing, award-winning event that has been named the Best YP Party by pretty much every local media, traditional and millennial alike.
The Mint Randolph is a beautiful spot for a May day party ~ everyone gets dressed up in Derby fine-ness, there are hats, and there is even a Best Dressed and Best Hat Contest.
