“Color Blocking” is one of the year’s hottest trends, and it’s a full blown style category (like neutrals or prints) for fall, winter and even resort 2012. Â Â It’s also super practical, since you can pull this trend together with separates and/or with accessories – and then wear those pieces differently when the look is no longer in vogue.
Color blocking is pretty self explanatory….juxtaposing large, mostly solid blocks of color in your outfit. Â While Color blocking can be mondrian style, with lots of 60’s influence and shots of brights, Â it is also being done in blocks of muted, autumnal shades for fall and pastel shades for resort. Â You can achieve the look by buying a single piece already printed with blocks of color, or you can put the look together yourself with separate colored layers and accessories.
The August J.Crew catalogue is practically a How To Manual for this latter type of color blocking – link to some of the photo’s here for inspiration.
