How To Wear Color Blocking.

“Color Blocking” is one of the year’s hottest trends, and it’s a full blown style category (like neutrals or prints) for fall, winter and even resort 2012.    It’s also super practical, since you can pull this trend together with separates and/or with accessories – and then wear those pieces differently when the look is no longer in vogue.

Color blocking is pretty self explanatory….juxtaposing large, mostly solid blocks of color in your outfit.  While Color blocking can be mondrian style, with lots of 60’s influence and shots of brights,  it is also being done in blocks of muted, autumnal shades for fall and pastel shades for resort.  You can achieve the look by buying a single piece already printed with blocks of color, or you can put the look together yourself with separate colored layers and accessories.

The August J.Crew catalogue is practically a How To Manual for this latter type of color blocking – link to some of the photo’s here for inspiration.

We’ve shopped the stores in town for the cutest take on this trend below.
