Largest Socially Distant 5K
The SWEATNET gang is hosting a truly virtual experience with The 6FT5K race from now through April 30th. This is a real race, with no dedicated location, no crowds, but with a REAL audio experience.
Walk or run 3.1 miles and you’ll be able to pretend like you are together with other racers through a virtual pacer. 100% of the proceeds are going to charity. Entry is FREE for SweatNET members or $5 for general public.
For more fun, there will be additional packages and swag available to further support this good cause. Lot’s more info here.
COVID 19-Miler to Raise Funds for PPE ~ Week of 4/27
Wondering how can you help people on the front lines of the Covid-19 crisis? Register for the COVID-19 Miler Virtual Run/Walk to help raise money for well needed PPE’s for our healthcare workers. By simply running/walking 19 miles throughout the week of April 27-May 3rd can go a long way. Feel free to post a picture in the Facebook Group to encourage others. Since this is a virtual event, you’ll receive a t-shirt and a coaster in lieu of a medal. All proceeds will go to CLTgivePPE, a 100% volunteer-based Charlotte grassroots movement to address the massive shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) in the Charlotte healthcare system by acquiring and distributing PPE as needed for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Details and registration here.
Local Live Cycle Classes
The studio may be closed, but some of our fave Flywheel Charlotte instructors have banded together to host live zoom cycle classes. The rides are donation based and all types of bikes can do them. Denise Duffy taught the first class last Saturday and had 30 riders via zoom ~ everyone had fun and emotions ran high with the feeling of community. There are even people joining who don’t have bikes at home, who are doing their own strength workout while still being able to see friends. Email sarah for more info and to learn how to join in. sstankavage@gmail.com
OrthoCarolina Urgent Care Now Open for Video Visits with Limited Weekend Hours
All this skateboarding, bike riding, miles walking, solitary jogging and backyard obstacle coursing may help pass the days in quarantine, but it’s not without risks! While you can schedule a regular video visit appointment during “office hours” with an Orthocarolina doctor for a non-urgent issue, you can now connect with an Urgent Care doctor over the weekends for orthopedic urgencies like:
- Strains, sprains, minor dislocations, and closed fractures
- Painful, swollen or injured joints of the ankle, back, elbow, foot, hand, hip, knee, neck, and shoulder
- Cast or wound dressing issues
OrthoCarolina Urgent Care Video Visits are available on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 2 pm by calling 704.323.2436.
Call 704.323.2436 and the operator will route your call to the first available Urgent Care provider available.
Because even in a pandemic, injuries still happen.
