As we wave goodbye to October and all of the Halloween-themed fun, there is barely time to take a crisp, fall breath before we welcome the Holiday season festivities. Help our neighbors in need, show your Niner Pride, support local artists and makers and get a head start on your shopping. Hard to believe it’s already November in Charlotte!

The Main Library Uptown is closing, and will soon be demolished to make way for the new – and the Library foundation has 9 days of events and activities planned celebrate this turning point in history.

Verse & Vino 2021 & CommonSpark Beer Unveiling 
November 4, 2021, 7:00 PM

This celebration of reading, writing and the joy of libraries – shared with a community of readers and New York Times best-selling authors – has become one of the region’s most anticipated events. This year, participants in Verse & Vino 2021 are encouraged to participate in a variety of formats, including both virtual and in-person options at Town Brewing Company. The CommonSpark “common ale” beer, crafted by Town Brewing Company, will launch at Verse & Vino 2021 and will be available for purchase at the brewery and in local groceries throughout Charlotte. A portion of each sale will benefit the CommonSpark campaign. More information is available here.

What:   Self-Guided Main Library Tours

When:  November 6, 7, 13 and 14, 2021 (Tours last approx 90-120 minutes)

Across two weekends, the public is invited to take a self-guided, walk-through time at Main Library, exploring 118 years of innovation, community and opportunity through audio, video, and activities, including book giveaways and an opportunity to make your mark on the walls. What:   24 Hours of Booky Read Aloud at Main Library & Virtual 

When:  November 6, 7, 13 and 14 (5-minute increments) 

The Library is seeking volunteers to read excerpts from personal favorite books in shifts – in person or on video – for the community’s longest all-ages storytime. Opportunities to participate are spread apart a couple of days, for a total of 24-hours of reading. Numerous local authors will be participating through video submissions.  The public is invited to sign up for a spot or submit a video at https://foundation.cmlibrary.org/one-for-the-books/

What:   Mural Creation by Osiris Rain

When:  November 6, 7, 13 and 14

Osiris Rain, a local artist whose work is found internationally, will create a special, temporary mural in the Main Library’s Great Hall during One for the Books. His work is an ode to a cathedral of knowledge and will feature colors from presenting sponsor Lowe’s Centennial Color Palette. One for the Books attendees can watch his work in progress.
