Charlotte’s Designer Consignment

Some the city’s best deals on boutique and designer wear are found at our local consignment shops, and we’ve found several that we love.  The key words to snagging the best buys at these shops are SHOP EARLY and SHOP OFTEN.  The good stuff is in and out quickly, and these stores are constantly refreshing their inventory to replace items sold.  Remember, unlike shopping at a full price boutique, most consignment stores only get one of each item they carry.  When it’s gone, it’s gone.   Here’s a rundown of four of our favorites – all fairly high-end, each known for specializing in unique segments of the designer consignment market.  All four of these boutiques do a nice job updating their Facebook pages with their latest items, so be sure to FAN them all!

Sweet Repeats

With the largest inventory on display, Sweet Repeats is unique in its side by side layout – one side of Sweet Repeats is geared to  casual and contemporary fashion,  and the other to more formal, business and high end designers.  Sweet Repeats has been in the Charlotte consignment business for 15 years and Jenny Burnett and her sister Amy have established long-standing relationships with dozens of women.  Including several local celebs, who consign their designer items every season.  And they get in some amazing items: Chanel, Prada, Armani, Burberry,  Dolce&Gabanna,  Escada,  Max Mara, Jimmy Choo, Manolo, Vuitton,  A  long wall of St. John.   This is definitely the shop to go to for consigned BUSINESS and PROFESSIONAL wear.  On the contemporary side of things you will find all the brands you covet at almost half the price.  Theory, Tibi, Tocca, Trina, Tory, Three Dots, True Religion – and that’s just the “T’s”.    T for Treasure Trove is more like it.    Sweet Repeats designer list goes on and on, as you can see for yourself here.

Consign by Design

Consign by Design is a great resource for the contemporary designer brands you know and love, like Trina Turk, Tibi, Nanette Lepore, DVF, Tory Burch, Susanna Monaco, and ABS,  as well as some you might not see much around the QC like  Yumi Kim, Trinity, and  Common Thread.  And CBD has probably the widest selection of consigned designer jeans in town….we can’t even name all the brands, but count on True Religion, AG, Anlo, Seven, Acne, Hudson, Stella, wide-legs, flares, skinnies, bootcuts.  Lots of sizes and washes.  Consign By Design is the only shop to carry a very solid collection of formal gowns, from brands like Carmen Marc Valvo, Vera Wang, Roberto Cavalli, Robert Davies and Lela Rose.
Finally, tucked inside CBD is one of Charlotte’s few higher end Maternity Consignment shops, WOMB.  In a nutshell, while Consign By Design isn’t the largest shop space-wise, you will find a trip-worthy selection of consigned categories that you won’t find in other spots.

J.T. Posh

J.T.Posh is something of a hybrid consignment boutique – gently used contemporary designers along with a sizable collection of never-worn/new-with-tags inventory from out-of-state boutiques.  Plus brand new jewelry from Towne & Reese at probably the best prices in town, Lindsay Phillips popular SnapShoes, Snaps & SwitchFlops, new bags by Big Buddha and Melie Bianco and new Candles by Votivo and Capri Blu .  The girls at JTP began working new accessories and gift ideas into their consigned finds a while back, and then started sourcing new items from contemp designer boutiques outside of Charlotte.  Now, at any given time you’ll find the mix of new to nearly new about 50/50 at J.T.Posh.  Great representation all of the designers so popular in Charlotte – Milly, Molly, Tibi, Tocca, Trina, Tory, DVF, Alice & Olivia, Alice & Trixie, Ella Moss, Hunter Dixon, Tucker, AG, Chip and Pepper, Joes, James, etc.

Monarch

Unique contemporary designers and an eagerness to collaborate are the hallmarks of Charlotte’s newest consignment boutique, Monarch in Dilworth.  Owners Cindy and Stephanie use their cosy bungalow on East Blvd to showcase pristine, gently worn designer items along with pop-up collaborations with neighbor Revolution Men’s Consignment and local designers such as Shawna Robinson of Happy Chair and jewelry by Bly Design (past collab).  You’ll find familiar contemporary brands here, but Monarch is your best source in town for some of the harder to find contemporary  consignment of the likes of Chloe, Development, Philip Lim. Antik Denim, Missoni, Manoush, Marc Jacobs, Haute Hippie, Clu, HOSS, Catherine Malandrino, Anna Sui, Tod’s, Sass & Bide, Matthew Williamson.  Monarch is probably the most fashion-forward of the QC consignment shops, where you can check out the newest popular designers at a fraction of their original price.

Divine Consign

by Beverly Perkins, scoopcharlotte
Divine Consign, a premier consignment boutique located in The Fountains shopping center on Ardrey Kell and Tom Short, is a hidden gem in the south Charlotte area.
For those diligent shoppers seeking treasure, this shop needs to be on your map.

Amalia Tucker graduated from the Art Institute of Atlanta with a degree in fashion merchandising and is a former makeup artist. She has always had a passion for bringing a person’s inward beauty outward, and her 20 years in retail have allowed her to do this in the form of wardrobing and cosmetics. Amalia’s ability to help others build self-esteem and confidence is priceless. In September of 2010, Amalia took this focus and placed it into Divine Consign. Her vision was to bring high-end fashion and designer brands to our community in a value oriented way. Premium brand consignment allows the original buyer a chance to recoup their original investment while providing gorgeous items for others at a price they can afford.

Divine Consign offers a top of the line boutique atmosphere for you to shop in, as well as a place to consign your own clothes. The shop is full of today’s popular brands of clothing, accessories and home furnishings, so you are guaranteed to find something you like. From casual weekend wear to those special occasion needs, they’ve got ladies, juniors and girls covered from BCBG to JUICY COUTURE to DOLCE & GABBANA.

Who knew one could score DAVID YURMAN & TIFFANY jewels, DIOR sunnies and a great pair of GUCCI pumps at a consignment shop in Ballantyne! Or the LOUIS VUITTON luggage that finds its way into the shop frequently.

Divine Consign also sells home furnishings. You may finally find that lamp for your study or that perfect accessory for your guest bath. Divine Consign will allow you to affordably put the final touches on every room in your house. They also make house calls if you need a bit of assistance in the decorating arena.

And new this spring, an area in the Divine Consign will feature “new with tags” merchandise purchased from local area department stores as overstock.

One thing that sets this consignment boutique apart is that they do not keep old merchandise in the store and rotate it around. Items are on the floor for no more than 60 days and then they’re off the floor. The consignor may pick it up or Divine Consign donates it to local charities. So, you will almost always see lots new in store every time you visit.

If you love designer name brand clothing and accessories, they certainly carry plenty of this merchandise on a regular basis. Each day brings a new surprise. It could be: Louis Vuitton, Prada, Chanel, Tory Burch, Kate Spade or Jimmy Choo. Some days, these items don’t even make it to the sales floor. Amalia has seen shoppers watch what is being dropped off and snatch items up. The higher end designers get scooped up quickly, so you may want to visit often or leave a card with what brands you like so Divine Consign can contact you when those items arrive.

Major credit cards, including Visa, MasterCard and Discover accepted. Personal checks, and of course, cash are also welcomed. Due to the nature of the consignment business, all sales are final, so please be confident in your selections. Gift cards are also available.

The customer service, shopping environment, and product offering are exceptional so prepare to be amazed. You may just strike gold!
