Since North Carolina is home to almost 200 wineries we’ve decided that we, the scoop girls, should go on and visit each and every one this year, as all are accessible by car from the QC. It’s not like we have anything else to do. Some of our favorites are within a couple of hours drive, and we’ve rounded those up below, in order of driving distance.

Shelton Vineyards was founded in 1999 by brothers Charles M. Shelton and Ed Shelton, in what is now known as the Yadkin Valley American Viticultural Area. Envisioned as a new agricultural resource for an area once dependent on tobacco farming, the Shelton family has helped put North Carolina back on the map as one of the top wine-producing states in the nation. Now one of the largest vineyards on the East Coast, Shelton Vineyards is known for its award-winning wines, having garnered more than 450 awards, including 13 best in show.

Shelton Vineyards’ belief is that fine wine begins in the vineyard. The location, in the heart of North Carolina’s Yadkin Valley, provides the ideal climate and soil conditions – very similar to that of the best wine growing regions in Europe.
