February Is Heart Month, and we join CHS in a focus on your healthy hearts.

Heart Disease.  It’s not just for men anymore.

Heart Disease and Stroke are WOMEN’S health issues.  Women have more strokes than men, and more women die from strokes than men.

Yes.  While heart disease has typically been considered a disease of white men, in today’s actuality:

• Women’s heart attacks are generally more severe, and in the first year after a heart attack, women are more than 50% more likely to die than men are.
• In the first 6 years after a heart attack, women are almost twice as likely to have a second heart attack.
• The chronic diseases that can increase a person’s risk of heart attack or stroke appear to hit women and blacks the hardest.
• Cardiovascular disease is the leading killer of women over age 25.

Hello ladies.  That’s pretty much all of us and those we love.

This February for Heart Month, we’re partnering with CAROLINAS HEALTHCARE SYSTEMS to raise Heart Health awareness among our many scoop readers, fans & followers.  We’ll be posting all month about heart health, wearing red, women’s healthy heart habits and more.

We’re even doing a hashtag contest with some excellent prizes to support the CHS Who Does YOUR Heart Beat For? social media campaign.
