What To Do & Where To Go Around the Lake (June 18, 2015 Edition)

Dad Day

It’s Father’s Day Weekend and if you’re all grown up like me (aka you pay your own taxes, bills, and cleaning lady) but still consider yourself a Daddy’s Girl, then make sure to shower him with lots of love Sunday for Father’s Day. Go fishing, golfing, or skiing with dad and feel like a kid again.

happy hour

I know I posted this a few weeks ago, but since school is all the way out now and your kids may already be b-o-r-e-d, I’d like to remind you the Wine Cellar has bottles of wine for $14.99 to be enjoyed on its patio from 2-5 p.m. EVERY DAY! You’re welcome.

LangTree Live! continues to rock into the summer months. This Thursday, June 18, from 6:30-10 p.m. enjoy Skate Rink Jukebox. The stores are open so may we suggest take a break from the heat and doing a little shopping too? We’d hate for you to get a heat stroke!

garden

Sorta random, but sorta cool (since I’m more likely to kill a vegetable than a weed) workshop for my black thumbs… Learn all about composting with Brenda Bernhardt with Master Gardeners Friday, June 19 at 10 a.m. at South Iredell Senior Center in Mooresville. The class will include the different types of composting and how to get started. There will be a time for questions and answers, so please bring your list. Heck, maybe you can garden with your dad for Father’s Day!

Art of Hope

The Hope House Foundation will host an evening of wine, appetizers, music, silent art auction and instruction by Paint Craze on how to paint your own canvas Friday, June 19 from 6-9 p.m. The event will take place at the Historic Beaver Dam Home located in Davidson. Wine will be provided by Lake Norman Winery and catering provided by Armins Catering. All proceeds will benefit the woman and children living in transition in the Hope House. Hope House provides housing and support services for single unaccompanied women or women with children (boys up to age 8 only) experiencing “situational” homelessness. The cost is $75 for an individual and $130 for a couple. Contact the organization’s Executive Director Debbie O’Handley at dohandley@hopehousefoundation.org to purchase your tickets.

The Charlotte Symphony returns to Lake Norman Friday, June 19 to perform its “SCREEN THEMES: Music from Movies, TV and More!” from 8:15-10 p.m at the Duke Energy Explorium. The musicians will be conductor by Roger Kalia. The symphony will feature a program of orchestral favorites including A Tribute to John Williams, Bohemian Rhapsody, Galop from William Tell Overture, The Flintstones Meet the Jetsons and other fun favorites. The basics you’ll need to know are:

1) Admission and parking are FREE! Pack a picnic and bring a blanket.
2) Boaters may anchor in the EnergyExplorium’s cove at the southern tip of Lake Norman.
3) Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase through the East Lincoln High School’s Band Booster Club.
4) The EnergyExplorium is located off Highway 73 in Huntersville. Follow the directional signs.
5) Early arrival is suggested.
6) Please no pets.

Birkdale Village will have a pet adoption with Greater Charlotte SPCA Saturday, June 20 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. I put a few pups available for adoption as our pictures and included the information for each. To check additional fuzzy friends waiting to be adopted click here. Please remember it’s HOT outside and your fur babies should not be left in your car unattended (seriously, leave them at home when you run errands), need loads of water, and shady, cool spots to nap.

food-truck

Oak Street Mills will be the site for the 3rd Annual Cornelius Food Truck Invitation Saturday, June 20 from 3-8 p.m. The creators promise a throw-down of the area’s tastiest trucks in a friendly competition where YOU are invited to be the judge! Cast your vote for categories such as Best-looking Truck, Most Creative Menu, Most Nutritious, and People’s Choice while a panel of local celebrity judges decide on who will win the coveted Critic’s Choice trophy. All trophies are custom-made by local artists and will be unveiled during the event.
