If Family Feud had a survey that asked what women honestly want for their 40th birthday, I think one of the top answers would be BOTOX. Yes, diamonds, vacations and cars are also right up there, but among my girlfriends, youth typically wins.
Year after year the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) has seen an increase in non-invasive procedures like BOTOX ( a muscle relaxer) and fillers that provide volume. A study done this past February showed BOTOX topping the list again with 6 million procedures. Almost 3/4 of all procedures performed in 2013 were minimally invasive with BOTOX at approximately half of that, followed by hyaluronic acid fillers and peels.
According to a new study by the American Academy of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS), you can blame it on Instagram. The rise in “selfies” and social media has contributed to all of us looking very closely in the mirror and critiquing every line and age spot. After all, no one wants a bad photo analyzed by hundreds of so-called “friends”.
The quest for youth, I believe, begins when we turn 30. We begin to use eye creams to start preventing those crow’s feet, and hopefully we “really” apply the moisturizer with sunscreen during the day and the serious highly moisturizing product at bedtime. Later in our 30s, we start the research on what we are supposed to do as the “said” birthday approaches. We want to be armed and ready when we wake up to the next decade of our lives.
We cannot stop the aging process, but we can certainly tweak it enough to slow it down. Most of us hit our 40s wishing we took preventative measures sooner. Perhaps sunbathing in a coating of baby oil wasn’t such a wise idea. No worries, it’s not too late!! We consulted the team at The Hunstad Kortesis Center for Plastic Surgery to see what some of the popular anti-aging and “age reducing” options are for “The Best Years Of Our Lives”. We found out that 40 is the time to consider…
~ Botox, which can be used safely on the forehead and/or around the eyes to improve the look of moderate to severe lines by relaxing the muscles in these areas.
~a filler like Restylane/Juvederm, which brings back volume and smoothness to facial areas by filling in wrinkles and folds.
~a CO2 medical grade laser administered by a physician: The Fractional CO2 Laser is a very popular medical grade laser at Hunstad Kortesis and has been ranked as the number one anti~aging breakthrough technology of the decade by WebMD. It resurfaces the skin with carbon dioxide by stimulating collagen growth which eliminates cosmetic conditions such as age spots and wrinkles with longer lasting results and minimal recovery time and minimal chance of pigmentation loss. Let’s just call it the “magic eraser”.
~topical use of Retin-A, a form of vitamin A that helps the skin restore itself.
~a medical grade skincare line like Obagi or Vivite , considered to be leading in the industry, and are proven with results for younger, healthier looking skin.
Just as wine gets better with age, we actually get better too. Just put yourself in the good hands at Hunstad Kortesis and celebrate this milestone birthday.
