10 after school snacks to beat the southern September heat

I always associate back-to-school time with falling leaves, lattes, crisp air, orchards, and cozy sweaters.  However, the reality is that it is still pretty hot out there, and it doesn’t look like I’ll be packing away my shorts any time soon.

No one wants warm comfort food  as an after school (or work) snack at this time of the year- that is, at least no one who lives in the Carolinas.

Here are ten snacks that will help anyone cool off after a demanding sports practice, a long bus ride (without air-conditioning), or a long walk home.  And since most of these recipes contain lots of fiber, they’ll keep those bellies nice and full until dinnertime.

1.  One Ingredient Ice Cream (using just bananas!)

2.  Fruit Kebabs with Honey-Yogurt Dipping Sauce

3.  Strawberry, Mango, & Yogurt Smoothie

4.  Organic Veggie Dip

5.  Watermelon Slush

6.  Tomato & Mozzarella Salad

7.  Granola, Yogurt, Berry Parfait

8.  Cucumber Dip

9.  Fancy Ants on a Log

10.  Watermelon-Blueberry Ice Pops
